Performing Ensembles at Norman North
Performing with the highest level of musical and artistic standards the bands at Norman North have received acclaim throughout the state and region including the prestigious OSSAA Sweepstakes award and the OSSAA Outstanding Achievement award. Interest in the band at Norman North is at an all time high and continues to gain momentum.
Concert ensemble comprised of the finest wind and percussion students attending Norman North. Committed to the highest standards in performance of the most prominent wind repertoire, this ensemble explores the richness and variety of contemporary and traditional music for the wind band. Placement in the Wind Ensemble is by audition only.
Concert ensemble comprised of wind and percussion students with a focus of continued development of musical skills. The Symphonic Band performs literature of the highest caliber allowing the members to develop maturity in their playing. Placement in the Symphonic Band is by audition only.
Performs at all home football games, marching competitions, parades, and school spirit functions. Performing state of the art drill and high-energy music, the Marching Band is recognized as the largest student organization in Norman Public Schools and one of the top marching ensembles in the state. All members enrolled in band are part of the marching band.
The top Norman North Jazz ensemble has earned a reputation as one of the schools most popular groups. The ensemble’s repertoire ranges from the classic big band scores made famous by Duke Ellington to music by Herbie Hancock and the Brecker Brothers. The Jazz Ensemble has earned a reputation as one of the top ensembles in the state of Oklahoma, with numerous first-place finishes and superior ratings at contest. Members of the Norman North Big Band must also be enrolled in the concert/marching program.
This ensemble focuses on developing fundamental jazz concepts such as improvisation, technique, and musical independence in jazz. This ensemble meets once weekly after school on Tuesdays.
Orchestral Winds & Percussion
Performs with the Norman North Symphonic Orchestra at state contest and three concerts per year. This ensemble gives students the opportunity to perform in an orchestral wind and percussion setting while performing some of the standards of the literature. This is a select group of students who audition in the Spring for the following academic year. If you are interested in auditioning, please contact Mrs. Wagner, Director of Orchestras.
Musical Pit Orchestra
This ensemble performs as a part of Norman North’s annual musical production each fall. The ensemble varies in instrumentation from year to year based on the needs of the show. The top wind and percussion students are asked to perform with this very musically demanding ensemble.
